Fashion Trends: Underwear as Outerwear

Those who live and breathe new fashion trends will be clamouring to hop on board the latest fashion bandwagon which is the wearing of underwear as outerwear. That's right, women have carte blanche to wear naughty yet stylish underwear and have it on display for the world to see. This is also tremendous news for extroverts who enjoy showing the world their sexy body and choice in saucy underwear.

It is now warm enough to start wearing underwear as outerwear and fashion designers have quickly cobbled together an array of outrageous yet fashionable outfits that you will soon see on a sidewalk near you. This trend was last worn in the 80s and as this era has recently come back with a bang, it is no surprise to see the underwear as outerwear trend resurrected.

One problem women have is pulling this underwear look off without appearing to be a cheap harlot. After all, large sections of modern society still hold outdated opinions on what one should and should not wear. Indeed, for such an enlightened society, we are still horrendously backward and have certain beliefs that wouldn't look out-of-place in the Puritanical Age.

One underwear look that women should possibly steer clear of the is stay-ups and suspenders ensemble. This is a daring look and if worn incorrectly, makes you resemble a streetwalker. However, with a large choice of patterned tights and stockings, this underwear as outerwear look is possible, if difficult to pull off. Women are advised not to wear stockings as outerwear however.

Other underwear types that can be revealed in public are camisoles and slips. These are pieces of underwear specifically designed to be worn as outerwear and as such, make the wearer look sophisticated rather than cheap. The main reason this type of underwear is acceptable is because the majority of dresses available in stores use the same type of material. Therefore, it would be hypocritical to slate those who wear slips as outerwear. One issue with this type of dress is that their light material makes them virtually impossible to wear in winter unless you are interested in frostbite.

Those who look towards underwear like slips should pair it with the sheer fashion trend. Conventional wisdom suggests that avoiding heavy accessories such as thick leather boots is wise yet models are appearing on the catwalk wearing thick leather belts and heels and guess what? They look amazing.
