How to Match Your Makeup to Your Clothes

Obviously, it is the clothes you are wearing that dictates the type of make-up you use. Wearing garish colours means you will need bright make-up to match, not a good combination. Choose clothes which have one or two solid colours as this makes it easier to find make-up that matches. Clothes featuring graphic prints seem to be a very fashionable items among women these days. To correctly match these type of clothes with make-up, use dark shades or mascara while keeping the lips understated. Ensure that the eyes and cheeks are adorned with light shades.

Coordinate Make-Up Colours With Your Clothes

While it is not good fashion practice to wear make-up that is the same colour as your clothes, it is a good idea to choose a clothing/make-up combination that use related colours. For example, you may have a dress that is cyan. You could combine this with electric blue or turquoise make-up. If this is too close a match for your liking, you should try darker shades of blue such as azure or iris.

You have to make a style choice between fully coordinating your clothes or make-up or just deciding to compliment them. If it's a full coordination you are after, there can be no half measures taken. You have to coordinate all facets of your make-up with your clothes. For example, you cannot focus on the eyes and leave out the lips. Balance is the key. As dramatic eyes and bold lips are generally a bit too much, perhaps you could keep the eye make-up and leave the lips barely touched.

Don't Detract from Your Clothes

At the same time, you cannot overdo the make-up as there is always the danger of it detracting from your clothes. The last thing you want is to wear a beautiful, expensive designer dress and have all focus being on your eyes instead. Again, it is all about balance. Your face and body should not be competing, they should be in harmony with one another. Choose the right make-up to go with gorgeous clothes and you will be the belle of any ball.
