Swimwear for Kids, What to Look For

All kids look forward to the beginning of summer for a few reasons. The first is that school is out. What kid doesn't love that? Secondly, it is time to hit the beach! For parents, that means it's time to start shopping for children's swimwear. You could always keep it basic, with a typical one-piece for a boy and a two-piece type of swimwear for a girl. It isn't always that easy if you want to wow your children while also placing them in stylish and functional swimwear. There are definitely a few factors to keep in mind.

Swimwear Colour and Design

The first thing to look at is colour and design. Boys and girls are fairly easy to please, usually with red or blue making the boys happy and yellow or pink swimwear pleasing the girls. The design of the swimwear is also a prominent detail, and you know a girl will love something flowery and a boy is pleased by anything he doesn't see as being girly. Kids in their pre-teenage years usually have a favourite actor or cartoon character they like, and they would love to have swimwear that shows that off. My daughter treasures her iCarly and SpongeBob swimwear outfits.

UV Protection Is Important for Kids Swimwear

The design and colour choices for the swimwear are for their benefit, and to make them happy with your choice. However, don't forget the parenting aspect of the selection. A good place to begin with is swimwear that is equipped with UV protection. A great way to achieve complete sun protection is to purchase wetsuits for the kids. A wetsuit may not be quite as cool or customisable as typical swimwear, but it offers better protection. If you still choose regular swimwear, just choose the fabrics carefully, and pick materials that can help them maintain body heat. We all know how kids are, once they get in the water, they won't come out until you either drag them, or they have hypothermia.

There are actually a couple of great benefits to using a wetsuit as swimwear for your kids, besides the obvious UV and warmth protection. Another benefit is that newer wetsuits are surprisingly comfortable and your kids will like wearing it. You also won't have to spend half your day running up and down the beach trying to chase them down and slap on a new coat of sunscreen. Besides the few exposed areas, the kids are completely protected just by wearing their wetsuits as swimwear.

Don't Forget the Swimwear Accessories

While the swimwear is a top priority, don't forget the accessories. Whether you are hitting the beach or the pool, things like flippers, water shoes, life jackets and goggles are a smart idea. The goal when you shop for your children's swimwear shouldn't be just to make sure they are protected from the sun and comfortable, but it should also be about making sure they are safe from injuries or drowning. The proper accessories are just as important as the swimwear.

We at Trixan Body stock a great range of boys swimwear, girls swimwear and even baby swimwear. So you are sure to find something appealing for your kids.
