Speedo History of an Icon
Speedo is without a doubt the world's most famous swimwear label. Celebrating their 80th anniversary in 2008, the Speedo brand is synonymous with technical innovation and performance in swimwear.
Speedo was born in 1928, having previously been known as Fortitude. The Speedo company was formed by Alexander MacRae, who had travelled to Australia in 1910, and started a business manufacturing underwear. MacRae was quick to realise that the population of Australia needed beachwear, and diversified his product range to include swimwear. This was to be a wise choice, as swimming became a national pastime, and attitudes to clothing styles changed.

Speedo are strongly associated with success in sports and bringing innovative design to a wider audience.
